Despite baking often, I had chickened out of trusting myself to make the kids' all-important birthday cakes. However I was determined to do it this year, and adapted this lovely easy fudgy chocolate cake for my daughter's birthday because she loves chocolate! Thankfully it turned out really well.
It's in fact the same recipe used to make to make this cake here on another occasion.
This time I piped the chocolate ganache around the top layer (instead of spreading it all over). You have to ensure that the ganache is left to get sufficiently stiff to use for piping.
Another special touch was brushing on some edible gold dust which looked great glistening on the dark chocolate.
