Well, we gave in to curiosity and opportunity and bought an air fryer finally. It's a Tower Dual Layer (11 litre) stack. I always knew I would want two baskets and stacked vertically for family cooking, rather than the more common single basket, but didn't want to pay Ninja prices. So when we saw this two-stack in Lidl for £99, it was a sign!
I couldn't resist trying out these quick snacks on the very day we got it.
Spiced Baked Chana (chickpeas):
1. Rinsed and fully-dried a can of chickpeas
2. Tossed them in very little olive oil, paprika, chili flakes, salt & pepper, and any other spices you fancy. I used some garam masala and some chana masala.
3. Air-fried them at 200c (the max temp on this model) for few minutes (maybe 5-ish, I can't remember!) then shook them, then baked for a few more minutes. When ready, a little squeeze of lemon over them. They do get a little more crispy as they cool.
Next time, before adding to air fryer, I would try tossing them in some cornflour or gram flour to make them crispier. Rice flour is good for this but I cannot find it anywhere yet.
Spiced Baked Edamame
I used frozen Edamame straight from the freezer and I did the same as above - I only tried a small portion to see how they would work out - a good protein snack.
Spiced Baked Almonds
I did the same as above but added honey and less savoury spices. These were tasty hot, but after several hours the coating was pleasingly dry, sweet and hardened. I took them with me on a coastal hike the next day!
